Noddy's adventures

West Kimberley – Derby and Broome

Noddy, etc left El Questro in the East and made their way west to more beaches that couldn’t be swum in! Damn crocs, sharks and jellyfish! During the trip that took a few days, we didn’t linger at many of the towns as unfortunately there has been a lot of unrest and there are many indigenous youths are running amok and causing a lot of issues. There have been reports of stolen and trashed cars, thefts from caravans even when in locked parks. There is a government imposed, indigenous elder backed ban on buying alcohol in these areas at the moment to hopefully calm things down. Many tourists were caught unawares and were unable to partake in Beer O’Clock as they could not re-stock for a few days!

The Kimberley region is amazing with mountain range after mountain range. This part of Australia was part of the sea floor billions of years ago. These ranges were formed after the plates of the earth shifted and collided over gazillions (OK, billions) of years and pushed layers of rock up out of the sea and into mountains. I was always of the view that Australia had such a short history, Europe seemed so much older. But now learning about both the geology of the land and indigenous people’s stories I am amazed can see that the length of history has less to do with man made architectural structures and more to do with the wonders of nature.

And here’s a coincidence – whilst we were in Broome we met up with a previous neighbour Jo Broom and we also bought a broom! Who’d have thought???

So, Derby and Broome – have a look at the video and I hope you can see how magnificent this part of the world is. https://youtu.be/SoYv550zJDE
